Lao PDR is rich in biodiversity which play important role for the livelihood of local people. At present, the biodiversity is under pressure which will increase biodiversity loss and endangered. Lao PDR ratified the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1996, and ITPGRFA - International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture in 2006 For implementation of the CBD and ITPGRFA, As a new member of the CGRFA, Lao PDR is committed to contribute to the work of the Commission for the conservation and sustainable use of GRFA. National Biodiverstiy Strategies and Action Plan, and a National Agricultural Biodiversity Programme has developed. But the implementation of these plan and programme, including Global Plan of Action is not easy to inappropriate capacity and limited financial resources in developing countries Access and fair benefi-sharing of GRFA is crucial for all parties. Nagoya Protocol provides options for future, but need more details mechanisms for practical implementation It is recognized that we are living in interdependence on agricultural biodiversity for food security in adaptation to climate change. Most of developing countries home genetic resources, but lack of capacity and finance, when developed countries have technology, finance and capacity. Capacity building, partnership, fair benefit-sharing, with the support of donors and international organizations, are keys to effective cooperation and sustainable use of GRFA and adaptation to climate change.Last Updated (Friday, 22 July 2011 22:03)

The Lao Agricultural Research Fund (LARF) aims to provide Lao scientists with an opportunity to compete for agricultural research funds.The LARF is open to government agencies, universities, agricultural colleges and NGO organisations based in the Lao PDR, which have a mandate to undertake agricultural research. Proposals must contain a defined research project, and can be of one or two years in duration. The annual funding limit for individual projects is US$6,000 and a maximum of US$10,000 for two year projects. The grant moneys are for expenditure only within the Lao PDR. More Info>>
